COVID-19 Tourism Industry Survey

November 17, 2020

The Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) released the latest industry survey results. See below some of the key findings and please visit TIA’s website for the full article.

“This survey provides a snapshot of the tourism industry at a critical phase of the tourism year leading up to the summer season. As a result of COVID-19, the industry is facing enormous uncertainty as it pivots to what is going to be a most unusual peak season. With borders closed, the reliance will be on domestic tourism and there are indications that this will sustain a solid level of demand, but not replace the international markets, especially for those sectors that are highly oriented to international visitors. According to our latest industry survey, just over half (53.23%) of the 318 respondents reduced staff numbers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But ahead of the usually busy summer season, 60% of respondents have sought to employ additional staff over the past three months, with 45% saying it has been difficult to find suitable candidates.”
